I have a few simple avocado recipes that I would like to share. These recipes are not appealing to my American husband but are popular in my native home country. Our house in the Philippines where I grew up has a few avocado trees in our front yard so we always have a lot of avocados to eat. One of my favorite recipes was called an avocado milk shake. It is a combination of avocado, milk, ice and sugar. Blend these ingredients to taste until it is ready to be served. It is that simple. They make really good drinks for the hot summer season in the Philippines. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of that recipe because I haven’t made one since I got here to the US.
Avocado is a nutrient dense food. Did you know that one-fifth of a medium avocado has only 50 calories and contributes nearly 20 different vitamins and minerals? Over 75% of the fat in an avocado is unsaturated (mono and polyunsaturated fats), making them a great substitute for foods high in saturated fat. My hubby likes avocados. He eats them straight up with just a sprinkle of salt on them.
The reason I am suddenly talking about avocado recipes on Thought for Food is because I have been given the opportunity to share with you guys the Kick Off with Hass Avocados Recipe Contest.
