Walgreens Prescription Savings Club

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I had never heard of the contract dispute between Walgreens and Express Script until recently. Express Scripts is the middleman between pharmacies that provide the health care service and employers and their health care plans. Walgreens had been negotiating with Express Scripts to continue to be their provider network. Unfortunately, the negotiations were unsuccessful and both parties have now parted ways. One of the Express Scripts customers that is affected by the split is Tricare, the health and prescription drug program for the US military.

The contract between Walgreens and Express Scripts expired on December 31st and as of January 1, 2012, Walgreens is no longer part of the Express Scripts network. This means that all Walgreens pharmacies nationwide and Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York City area are no longer included in the Express Scripts pharmacy network. The change of network coverage forces many pharmacy customers to go elsewhere to use their in-network pharmacy benefits for their meds.

In an effort to reduce the disruption to Express Scripts customers, the pharmacy is offering a special discount on an annual membership of Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. For $10 a year, a family membership covers everyone in your immediate family including a spouse, dependents 22 and younger and pets. Individuals may join for $5. You will receive savings on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications and get discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies as well.
